How Does Density Affect Maintenance?
The MOHs hardness scale puts a number on natural stones to indicate how tough the stone is, one of the determining factors on this scale is; Density.
Denser stones like Granite and quartzite’s fall at about a 6-7 on the MOHs(10 being a Diamond) while more porous stones like Travertine and Marble fall at about a 1-5. The more Porous a slab is the more likely it will require higher maintenance and will typically be installed in bathrooms, powder rooms, and laundry spaces while the more denser stones can be applied in busy areas like a kitchen or even outside
